To check the file, run shasum -a 256 ~/Downloads/PersonalNotes-0.5.1.dmg in Terminal and compare. The disk image and the app are signed and notarized by Apple.

Five steps, then it is yours.

  1. Open the download. Double-click PersonalNotes-0.5.1.dmg in your Downloads folder. A window opens with Personal Notes and your Applications folder.

  2. Move it. Drag Personal Notes into your Applications folder, then eject the Personal Notes disk in the Finder sidebar.

  3. Open it. The first time, macOS confirms the app was downloaded from the internet and checked by Apple. Choose Open.

  4. Allow the microphone. macOS asks the first time you press Record or Talk. Audio stays on your Mac unless you use a Pro cloud feature.

  5. Get the speech model. The app offers the speech model (about 220 MB) the first time you press Record. Talk and instant transcription are Pro and run in the cloud, so there is nothing else to download.

It keeps itself current.

Personal Notes updates itself. It checks for a new version, shows you what it found, and installs it with your approval. Updates are signed and verified before they are installed, so you do not need to come back here to stay current.
